In the heart of the South Island lies a vast, dramatic landscape of pristine, glacial lakes and soaring mountains with the astounding Aoraki Mount Cook as its crown. Welcome to the Mackenzie Region, where the Mount Cook Hotel Collection features 4 accommodation options: The Godley Hotel, Lake Tekapo; The Mackenzie Country Hotel, Twizel; The Heritage Gateway Hotel and Countrytime Hotel in Omarama. Our accommodation is suited to coach tours and individual travellers from all markets with a hotel to suit all levels. All hotels have restaurants and bars featuring hearty cuisine made from fresh, local product.

Our Hotels

The Godley Hotel, Lake Tekapo

Relax and enjoy comfortable, country-style accommodation at the Godley Hotel in the stunning alpine village of Lake Tekapo in the beautiful South Island! The hotel is centrally located with lake and mountain views. Enjoy the onsite Jack Rabbit café or relax in the stylish lounge. It’s a 5-minute walk to the lake with its famous turquoise waters, and the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Lake Tekapo has a great range of activities, including stargazing, hot springs, ice skating, walking, cycling, horse riding, scenic flights, and 4WD tours. The Godley Hotel is an ideal base for skiing as Roundhill Ski Area is just a 40-minute drive. The hotel is a 3-hour drive from Christchurch or Queenstown, or a 1-hour drive to Aoraki/Mt Cook.

Mackenzie Country Hotel, Twizel

The Mackenzie Country Hotel is instantly recognisable by its classic stonework exterior,  reflecting the distinctive mountain and river landscapes of the Mackenzie region. The spacious and mature grounds are a key feature of this idyllic country setting. 

The hotel has 108 large, comfortable furnished bedrooms, with their own ensuites and private balconies or patios overlooking the gardens with mountain views. The hotel is ideally placed for large conferences or weddings.

Enjoy authentic New Zealand cuisine in the Mackenzie Country Hotel’s fully licenced restaurant. There is a modern bar and cosy lounge with an open fireplace for the cooler months.

Heritage Gateway Hotel, Omarama

Relax and enjoy comfortable, country-style accommodation at the Heritage Gateway Hotel in the beautiful village of Omarama in New Zealand’s amazing South Island! Close to lakes, mountains and rivers, with dazzling starry skies by night, the hotel is the perfect base for cycling the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail, exploring the Clay Cliffs or the Ahuriri Conservation Area, skiing at Ōhau Snow Fields, or boating, fishing and swimming at the nearby lakes.

The Heritage Gateway Hotel offers modern and comfortable rooms, including family units with cooking facilities. Many have a balcony to view the great mountain scenery and all have tea and coffee making facilities, en suite bathrooms and free parking.

Set amongst landscaped gardens, dine in the al fresco restaurant or relax at the bar while enjoying the views of the surrounding mountains. Gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options are available.

Countrytime Hotel, Omarama

Countrytime Hotel, located in Omarama, meaning Place Of Light and known for excellent fishing, cycling and hiking opportunities.

Built to last with brick construction, the Countrytime Hotel is a sturdy and classy hotel set amongst spacious grounds. There are 48 simply furnished guest rooms with a refrigerator and tea and coffee facilities, all with shower over bath ensuites.

The hotel restaurant serves Brasserie-style cuisine and offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The hotel bar, decorated to resemble a traditional sheep shearing shed, serves wine and beer from the local area.

Guests can visit the Clay Cliffs, 20 minutes’ drive away, Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, which is just over an hour drive away or join the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail.
